You shoved all that on a 650 bronze cert? Wow. What's your Mobo (I'm assuming it's a newer one due to the LGA 1150 slot on the haswell chips)?

Well now that I'm officially on the market I already had my eye on that exact processor. How loud is that VelociRaptor though? I've always thought about getting one.

Re: My new rig
I'd go with the haswell i5 for gaming nothing really uses hyperthreading as far as gaming goes. If you want the hyperthreading the i7 gives grab a xeon processor from intel much cheaper and better only thing it lacks is the on board GPU. Velocirapters aren't that loud but any 7200 rpm drive gives about the same performance and last I checked they were a lot cheaper. Noisiest thing in a build is usually the fan.Traumahead wrote:Well now that I'm officially on the market I already had my eye on that exact processor. How loud is that VelociRaptor though? Re: My new rig
Yeah hyperthreading does seem to be a trend that no one is following. I've been getting burned in the way of components. I work my computers like mules in the way of multitasking. The problem is that I have the inclination to try to save money at the moment, but I feel like I will be getting what I pay for in the future. I feel like I need to spend $700 on this.
Also, why the fuck does it have to be so hard to settle on a motherboard? In 100% of the computers I've owned, its always the motherboard that fails. I will never buy an ASUS again FYI... any ASUS product.

When I get back from running a few errands I'll for sure link you some components I've had good experiences with. Mobo CPU and GPU should be the majority of your price.

I just upgraded the GPU so I'm good there. Just need mobo, cpu and memory. Any advice would be appreciated. I want to fix my computer asap.

Re: My new rig
Well if you just need those parts I can help you out fine only three things I need to know are how much are you looking to spend, what PSU/GPU do you have, and what are you looking to do with the PC?

Re: My new rig
Budget is $600 to $700. Though staying lower is always better if possible.
Current GPU: Sapphire HD 7950 w/ boost
Here is my current choices in hardware
Intel Core i7-4770K
ASRock Z87 Extreme6 LGA 1150
Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133
This is what I'm pretty well sold on but the i7-3770K seems to be a much better buy for the price. I just don't know if I should go with the 3770K since it's last gen.

Well keeping up with the latest gen is a lost cause, however the haswell (4000 series) chips that have replaced the bridge series (2000-3000) are using the lga 1150 socket versus the lga 1155 so upgrading in the future is a little bit of a hassle. Since you don't plan on overclocking don't get the unlocked chip the "K" version since you're just paying more for a service you won't use. I really think you would be better with the xeon processor it's made to handle 100% load 24/7 so it can certainly take a beating and it will cost much less for the same performance of an i7. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116906 That motherboard looks great too for what you're doing.
Ram is ram pretty much just go for 1333-1600 mhz DDR3, 8 gb is generally standard but 16 won't hurt.

Re: My new rig
A server processor? Isn't the i7 geared more toward gaming though? Don't get me wrong, that sounds like a good idea but am I losing anything by switching to Xenon? I don't keep up with server specs.

Re: My new rig
So I bought a new 850W PWS from Best Buy today and the computer ran POST with no problem. Problem is when I ran DayZ it crashed again. Now I have no friggin clue whats wrong. I basically tried to solve one problem and created another.

Re: My new rig
Nice find, the dayz problem is kinda funky are you sure you hooked up all the pci cords to the graphics card so that it was getting enough power?Traumahead wrote:You go home! I have to work.

Re: My new rig
Yeah I made sure that they were all good. It's really upsetting. I feel like the PC did so much better with this new power supply. Ran smoother and booted quicker. When DayZ crashed that really threw a wrench in things.
I played some Bioshock Infinant for a bit to try to duplicate the problem but had no luck. I think I need to test it a little harder.
Also, for future reference I did run a MEMTEST 86+ on the RAM and it checks out.
Edit: Here is the PWS I got
Thermaltake SMART Series 850W 80PLUS
