Dayz and Laptops
So currently I play dayz, plus other things on a toshiba icore 5 laptop. it runs ok... and i'll leave it at that. It does the job but, def could be better. I really don't need a desktop at the moment, college soon and all. Anyone know an (affordable, not over a k) laptop that could handle dayz-esque games with good frame-rate and possibly good graphics. (graphics are 2nd priority). Thanks for any advice.

Re: Dayz and Laptops
Personally, I would recommend either the Lenovo Y580 or the Y500.
I got a Y580, it runs DayZ and pretty much everything I got extremely well. Take note i got the 720P model, which I paid 769$.
- 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3630QM (2.30GHz 6MB Cache)
- 8GB (DDR3) RAM
- NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX660M
- 15.6" LED backlit HD display (1366x768)
- 15.6" LED backlit FHD display (1920x1080)
- 2.8 kgs (6.15 lb)
Its battery are okay, but you won't get any serious gaming on battery because it drops its performance so battery don't get raped.
I can't say anything about the Y500, it came out 2 months ago, it can run SLI GT650m which would be around 40-50% more performance out than a single GTX660m.
- 3rd generation Intel® Core™ i7-3630QM
- 8GB (DDR3) (16 GB Max Capacity)
- NVIDIA® GeForce® GT650M 2GB
- 15.6" HD (1366x768) or FHD (1920x1080) display (16:9 widescreen) (220 NIT)
- 5.95 lbs. (2.7 kg) with 6-cell battery
Quick note on the Y500, I heard to get it in SLI, you must find it on the Lenovo website, or Amazon, I ordered my Y580 directly from Lenovo, be ready for some inhuman waiting time, I got mine in 3 weeks, which is unheard of because it was SO FAST. Most people get 2 months. So if you can deal with the waiting time for a cheaper price, order directly, if not, DON'T.
Personally, I like how the Y500 looks, too bad it wasn't out when I ordered my Y580.

Re: Dayz and Laptops
Thanks to both of you for your advice. Tilux I found a Y580 for 799$ and a Y500 for 890$ Is the extra 100 worth it?

Re: Dayz and Laptops
I can't vouch for the Y500 because I haven't tested it or bought it. But it seems it is a great laptop if you get SLI version, also, I suggest you pay the extra dough for a 1080P display because more place for anything not gaming related.

Keep in mind they are using the fully equiped version of both laptop. I have the cheapest Y580 with the 720P display and it works great at that resolution. If you truly want to play at 1080P with max graphic, you're better off with a desktop or a 17inch laptop. (i.e : Sager)
EDIT : Can you give me the link for the laptops? Il check em out.

Re: Dayz and Laptops
The Y500 you linked me comes with a 1080P display and i7, but only 1 GT 650m GPU, you would need to buy the ultrabay GPU from Lenovo : http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?GroupID=460&Code=0C22235&category-id=3E71FB3EB22D4A308B517832F7D2264A&hide_menu_area=yes#techspecs
You would also need to buy the 170W adapter.
OR
Buy it at 1k from amazon with all the parts.

----
The Y580 comes in with the 720P display, I personally don't mind it but whenever I uses editing program like Photoshop, I wished I had more work space.
Personally, it's your call. But I would pay extra for the fully upgraded Y500 that I linked because if you cut corners like I did, you WILL regret it down the road.

Thanks!
I probably am going to get one of them, not sure which. I need to find out how much I can get for my current laptop and how much I have saved. Hopefully I can get one by the time the standalone comes out! - Thanks Again ~ Ty's

Hesitant to post since I didn't read anything in here but I figured this may be relevant.
