I am sure you guys feel the same as i do about the den shutting down, I am not sure if anyone's mentioned this but we can go to forums and advertise the den. As I said its an idea you don't have to support it but I've had way to many memories with the den and don't want to see it go away

People want more mods and for the pace to be quicker in the game. No one is going to join a largely vanilla server. Those are really dime a dozen.

I admit it is fun to play but only when you have more than 10 people on the server.

If Hunter's Den want's a stronger player base then there needs to be two servers. One that let's people get their killing on quickly and then one server like what the Den has right now.

Why? Rarely does anyone want to spend 4+ hours of their time to find out they don't like a server or the community.

I've seen this model work in a bunch of different communities I've been frequently visiting.

Other options?

Make the Den unique. Offer something that no other server offers. We will need to work as a community to come up with something enticing to strangers. How many threads do you see for servers on the Dayz forum? Hundreds if not thousands. As "unique" as our community is...it is lost among the dozens of largely vanilla servers.

totally agreed. although ideas to make the den have something completely unique will be a challenge in some instances. but we have many dedicated people that can put their minds to good use Smile

It doesn't even need to be modding on Skeeter's part. If the community was willing to coordinate an effort then I would say that alone deserves the effort on Skeeter's part to keep the server alive. It seems that this sever is being shut down because the community seemed to fall apart.

Events, coordinated team events (Escort VIP or something) or even something as (some would think lame) simple as Roleplay would go a long way. I was kind of hoping to take my Resistance idea somewhere to where I would advertise the server as needed new players to fight against NofW but it didn't go anywhere because I've been busy and continue to be busy with classes.

It is unfortunate but this game requires way too much time from it's players to maintain the community. The only way to solve this is by getting rid of the time draining aspects such as little vehicles, spawning without gear.

Scott tells me I need to go play an Arcade shooter. He is too young to remember what it was like Operation Flashpoint came out. I was apart of a few communities for the first release of what we know as ARMA II today. Heavily modding the game to have more vehicles does not really turn it into an arcade shooter. It simply caters to people who don't have the time nor dedication to a purely simulation game such as Op. Flashpoint real battles and currently Dayz Vanilla.

It seems that no one really has time anymore in this community to play long enough for the server to become populated past 10-15 people. At that point who is going to bother playing for hours on end when they know the population won't increase? The only real solution is to nerf the survival aspect of the game to build the player base and then once we have that community...then we can all agree on a more survival intensive server.

I am not here to change the Den into another 1000 vehicle, spawn with weapons server. There are dozens of those I can connect to (and I do).

Here is my idea to bring a high population back to the Hunter's Den.

Our first problem: Recruiting new players.
One way to solve it: Make it simple and enticing for a player to join. Do away with having people needing to spend extra time to join a team or band of survivors or bandits.

Make the option clear cut and divide the survivor into two predetermined factions: Survivors/Heros and Bandits. This allows a new player to immediately have people to work with towards a common goal no matter who is online.

Each faction can spawn with gear or perhaps establish a safety zone or base for each faction where they can gear up with minimal gear. Better gear is still highly sought after and promotes this factions to go out and scavenge.

DayZ is currently an aimless game and I feel that this lack of foresight from Rocket and his developers is the cause for many private hives from failing.

Skeeter was working on that exp. type thing remember. I can see the merit in your idea Petrov but I personally don't having the idea of safe zones and starting with gear depending upon a "faction". Though the idea of having predetermined teams may give people more a goal to push forward to. Have to be careful with that or it will just turn into a giant death match similar to Wasteland.

I consider ALL OF YOU my friends.

Nothing can take away the good times.  We were able to stay 100% private for a long time.  I'll always be interested in trying new things to keep it going.

But if not, I'm equally happy with how things went.  Its not shutting down officially.  Its still paid for and I'm still watching over things.  I just know its becoming harder to keep a dayz server full of pee-pull.

But it will be here, and it will always be our Hunters Den.

hopefully dayz standalone becomes something we can enjoy together as well.

Don't know if it's possible (or even a good idea :p) but could we make the test server a different kind of server like origins?

Or that DayZ aftermath mod looks very promissing aswell

Hopefully the standalone is not a huge letdown but if it is I do trust skeeter, the McGyver of all admins, to make it worthwhile, he who can turn a pile of trash into gold (like McGyver) Very Happy

Post  Traumahead Mon Aug 19, 2013 6:55 pm

As far as I see it, it was a combo of many things happening that caused people to leave

1) Summer ending.
2) The shitty dayz "updates" that keep getting put out.
3) Public Variable Restrictions. I know it is meant to keep hackers out but when a new player would join and get kicked, there isn't a whole lot of incentive to come back and figure out why. I almost feel like it would be more helpful to get rid of it, but I know that opens a massive can of worms.
4) As a community, the vets of the server kinda had an open season with all the little babmies. And there was no bag limit. I know I was one of them.
5) Lack of vehicles. I know we got rid of them to make the game more difficult, and I agree, it made it more fun. But the timing was way off on implementing this as it was only a few weeks after the difficult new update.
6) Gun rarity. This one is for the vets. No one really wants to call this out because having the biggest and baddest gun is awesome. But when everyone has a mk48 then things start to get stale. Guns are way too easy to find.

I'm sorry if this is harsh but this is just a list that I've been keeping in my head of where I think the problem came from. I love the den. I've never played any game as much as I have in DayZ and 95% of it has been on The Den. "Is there anything we can do to correct these problems?" is the question you gotta ask. And how?
