something to think about
If you guys ever want to open to public, let me know. It would make the server alot more populated. I'm not afraid to do this now, because of the script scanning.
I'm happy either way. But I notice people talking about the population alot. Which atm, we can only pull players from a limited pool of server members.
Some nights will always be slow because of this (no way to avoid it on a password protected server)
However with a public server.......you get to pull players from a much larger pool 24/7.
Back before we passworded this server, it stayed VERY populated. But the big problem back then was hackers, and a disgusting amount of them.
I can now promise a 100 percent secure public server.
But again.............its up 2 you all. I'm honestly happy either way (and to be honest, I like the private "feel" that we currently have)
I'm only posting this because when I read chat logs.......it seems to be a hot topic of discussion.

currently we have over 250 members, but only 72 are considered active.....all from diffrent timezones and work schedules.

You know i'm for the password protection. I'm very much against opening it to public. Makes it more fun to know who can be trusted and who cant. When open to the public the server will become like Call of Duty which is exactly what i'm trying to get away from.

I don't think server population is a problem at all. 10-20 players is usually what I enjoy, rather than 30+.

thnx pro
I'm very happy as well. But I just needed to say this, because its being talked about alot ingame. Sme times will always be a bit slow. But for most part I've been enjoying watching this private community grow. I would hate to loss the private feel we have right now.

I do enjoy some conflict but at night times there just arent to many ppl around so it makes the game kinda dull if i know the only thing thats gonna kill me are zeds, "or the game". Then on ther other hand i do enjoy it being password protected for obvious reasons.

He has a good point as its usually dead by the time I get on as well. But we always have the option to take the password off. I just dont want to jump the gun. Maybe we can find more players.

I like it private/passworded. If I wanted to play on a public server it would be easy for me or any member here to do so. We are here because it is private.

I like playing at 2 am on a weekday with barely anyone on actually. Allows me a chance to stock up on guns and supplies for the next day! The server is populated at night most of the time on weekends though. I dont see a problem.

I like it the way it is. A few more european players would be nice but this should sort itself out over time.

I agree with everyone, I really enjoy learning everyone's personalities and who you can trust. And I love that feeling when there's that random new player and everyone pushes to find out his alliegence. As much as i hate NofW, it would be worse if the clan is filled with random bandits that just loot, die and leave the server forever. I really love the fact that we can continue playing with people. I love that Remedys killed me the other day and i risked it all to find him a kill him for revenge. On a public server, i may never see the guy who killed me again.

Same here, before I came to the huntersden I usually looked for servers around 10-20 people on it.
Keep it the way it is!

Re: something to think about
skeeteR,
After reading all of these awesome posts about everyone having fun on our private server it makes me wonder. If everyone agrees I think it might be a good idea to encourage more players to post to the forum. Like having an automated message sent while in the server. If new players got a better sense of the community and how much fun we have they may be more willing to make the den their home.
I'd like to know what everyone else thinks.

Re: something to think about
Inviting a public element will encourage more CoD/BF3 scenarios. Personally, I'm on the server because it IS less populated, and it is a bit slower. People sometimes forget this isn't ARMA 2; its DayZ. Its supposed to be a survival horror-fest. Not a frag-shoot-em-up. I have other games for that. As someone else also pointed out, its just as easy to find a public server, if people choose to play on one. I feel opening the server to the public will invite a larger, more immature, element as well. Things seem fairly balanced as far as adults to children(or childish behavior). And personally, while you do an amazing job dealing with and keeping hackers at bay, there's really no way to ensure that we wont run into them. People always find a way around protocols. Its just the nature of computers.
My vote, if there is one, is against a public server.

Re: something to think about
To everyone, thanks so much for taking the time to reply to this topic. You all have reassured me of some things.
I agree with you all, this server/community will stay PRIVATE
I feel a lot better after reading everyone's thoughts. I was starting to wonder about the "private/public thing"
But thanks to everyone speaking up, I now know what most of you are thinking.
This server will always belong to its members.......this private community.
We will continue to make decisions as a group. Never hesitate to speak up when something bothers you. We can usually figure out any issue.
thanks again
